Security guard or future guard? Create your free profile: agencies hiring near you find you, without seeing your name.

Are you looking for security guard training in Laval, in Longueuil or elsewhere in the suburbs around Montreal? The public offer there is thinner than you might think: at the time of writing, the official vocational training directory lists no group in Laval, in the Laurentides or in Lanaudière, and only two school service centres in Montérégie. Here is what really exists, how to check it yourself and what to do next.

The content of the courses (modules, hours, additional training) is detailed on our page security guard training explained. Here, we focus on the regions around Montreal.

What training does the BSP require to work in security guarding?

Wherever you live, the rule of the Bureau de la sécurité privée (BSP), Quebec's private security regulator, does not change: you need at least 70 hours of training, divided into three modules:

  • environment, function, legislation and standards of conduct (30 hours)
  • emergency procedures (24 hours)
  • workplace first aid recognized by the CNESST, Quebec's labour standards and workplace safety board (16 hours).

The BSP specifies that this training is taken in a school service centre that offers the security guarding program, or in another training course that is recognized and appears on its list.

The public network also offers a more complete path: the Attestation of Vocational Studies (AEP) "Sécurité privée – Gardiennage", program 4239, of 390 hours. The Inforoute FPT estimates it at about three months. The English version, Private Security Guarding (program 4739), also has 390 hours.

Where can you take security guard training in Longueuil and on the South Shore?

For anyone looking for security guard training in Longueuil or on the South Shore, the Inforoute FPT lists two school service centres in Montérégie for AEP 4239:

  • CSS Marie-Victorin (Longueuil territory): its vocational training centre appears there with a group in recognition of acquired competencies (RAC), daytime, with continuous intake. The RAC is mainly for people who already have security experience and want their skills recognized, rather than for beginners.
  • CSS des Hautes-Rivières (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu region): its vocational training centre lists an evening group there. The start date shown had passed when we checked. Ask the centre when the next group starts.

We found no group listed for the CSS des Patriotes or other South Shore centres. Sessions open according to demand.

What about Laval, the Laurentides and Lanaudière?

For security guard training in Laval, when we checked, the Inforoute FPT listed no AEP 4239 group at the CSS de Laval, nor in the school service centres of the Laurentides (Mille-Îles, Rivière-du-Nord) or Lanaudière (Affluents, Samares). For the 70-hour training, however, the site agentdesecurite.ca, to which the BSP refers, names the Centre de services scolaire de Laval and the CSS des Affluents. The dates shown when we checked on October 7, 2026 had passed: call the centre to find out when the next group starts. The realistic options:

  • travel to Montreal, where two centres offer the AEP (see our article on security guard training in Montreal)
  • keep an eye on the Inforoute FPT, which lists new groups with the schedule and the start date
  • choose another training course recognized by the BSP, checking the exact name of the institution in the official list "Autres formations en gardiennage acceptées par le BSP". A training course counts there only if it was taken after the date of its recognition.

This table reflects the Inforoute FPT at the beginning of October 2026. Groups change often: always check the page for program 4239 before you decide.

How much does the training cost, and can it be paid for?

We found no published price on the official pages of the region's centres. Ask the centre directly, specifying whether materials, first aid and registration fees are included.

If you are unemployed, Services Québec can fund your training through the Mesure de formation de la main-d'œuvre (the workforce training measure). According to Québec.ca:

  • you must be 16 or older, have left full-time school at least 24 months ago, and the lack of training must be a major obstacle to employment
  • the assistance can reach $400 a week for qualifying training such as an AEP
  • certain costs can be reimbursed: child care, transportation, training costs, accommodation.

Apply to Services Québec before you register. Do you live in Laval or Lanaudière and take the course in Montreal? Transportation costs are part of what can be reimbursed.

What should you do once the training is over?

  1. Keep your attestation: it is the proof of training the BSP will ask you for.
  2. Apply for your agent licence. All the steps, documents and timelines are on our page how to get the BSP licence.
  3. Prepare your application with our security guard resume template.
  4. Look for a position: shopping centres, warehouses, construction sites and health institutions hire in the suburbs. Our tips: finding a security guard job.

Frequently asked questions

Is the RAC at the CSS Marie-Victorin suitable for a beginner?

In general, no. Recognition of acquired competencies is meant to validate skills already gained at work. Without experience, aim for a regular training group, in Montreal or elsewhere.

Can I take the course in a region other than my own?

Yes. Nothing requires you to study in your own school service centre. Many Laval and North Shore residents take their course in Montreal.

Are the 70 hours enough for the licence?

Yes, if the three modules required by the BSP are passed. The 390-hour AEP goes further, but is not mandatory to get the licence.
