Are you looking for security guard training in Quebec City or in Lévis? In the Capitale-Nationale region, the public offer is more concentrated than in Montreal: only one school service centre currently lists the official program on the Inforoute de la formation professionnelle. Here is what you will find there, what it costs, how to get it funded and what to do once the course is over.

The detailed content of the training (the modules, the additional training courses and the Decree's premiums) is explained on our page all about security guard training in Quebec. Here, we stick to what is specific to the Quebec City and Lévis region.

What training does the BSP require to work as a security guard?

Whether you live in Charlesbourg, Sainte-Foy or Lévis, the rule does not change. For an agent licence in security guarding, the Bureau de la sécurité privée (BSP), Quebec's private security regulator, asks for at least 70 hours of classes, taken in a school service centre that offers the private security guarding program. These 70 hours are divided into three blocks:

  • environment, function, legislation and standards of conduct: 30 hours
  • emergency procedures: 24 hours
  • workplace first aid recognized by the CNESST (Quebec's labour standards and workplace safety board): 16 hours.

The BSP also accepts certain other security guarding training, provided it has been recognized by the Minister and taken after the date of that recognition. Before paying a school, check its exact name in the BSP's official list.

There is a more complete version: the Attestation of Vocational Studies (AEP) "Sécurité privée – Gardiennage", program 4239. It has 390 hours, or about three months full time.

Where can you take a security guard course in Quebec City?

According to the Inforoute FPT, consulted on October 2, 2026, the only organization in the Capitale-Nationale that offers AEP 4239 is the Centre de services scolaire des Découvreurs, through its Service aux entreprises des Découvreurs. Three groups are listed there:

GroupStartScheduleWhat we know
Group 4239October 13, 2026 (ends January 26, 2027)Day, 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., 30 hours a weekListed as "full". 19 places. Work-study program
Group "Février 27"February 15, 2027DayNext cohort. Details to be confirmed with the centre
RAC-SECURContinuous intakeDay, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.Recognition of acquired competencies

The RAC group is for people who already have security experience: instead of redoing the whole course, you get what you already know recognized and take only what is missing.

And what about the other school service centres in the region, such as the CSS de la Capitale or the CSS des Premières-Seigneuries? On the date of our check, neither the Inforoute FPT nor the list of centres published on the information site about the security guarding program, to which the BSP refers, named them for this program. A course may still open during the year, however: redo the search for program 4239 before you decide.

Can you take the training in Lévis?

Not for now, at least in the public network. The Inforoute FPT listed no AEP 4239 group in Chaudière-Appalaches, and the CSS des Navigateurs (Lévis) does not appear either in the list of centres that offer the 70-hour training. For someone from Lévis, the closest public option therefore remains the CSS des Découvreurs, on the other side of the river.

This picture changes: a cohort can be added if the demand is there. A call to the business services of the CSS des Navigateurs will tell you whether it is planning a group.

How much does the training cost and how long does it last?

For the October 2026 group at the CSS des Découvreurs, the Inforoute FPT gives a cost of $105 taxes included, materials included. This amount holds for that specific group: for the other cohorts or for the RAC, the cost varies with the centre and the session. Always ask what is included (first aid, manuals, uniform) and whether there are separate registration fees.

As for length, count 70 hours for the minimum training required by the BSP and 390 hours for the AEP. At 30 hours a week, the October group runs over a little more than three months.

Add to your budget the BSP licence fees, which are indexed every year.

Can Services Québec pay for my training?

Yes, if you are eligible for the Mesure de formation de la main-d'œuvre (the workforce training measure). According to Québec.ca, it can:

  • pay an allowance of $400 a week during qualifying training such as an AEP
  • reimburse certain costs: training, transportation, child care, and accommodation if you have to travel to take the training.

Among other things, you must be at least 16, have stopped full-time studies at least 24 months ago and show that the lack of training is keeping you from finding a job. The application is made online or at the Services Québec office in your area, in Quebec City as in Lévis, and preferably before you register. For someone from Lévis, transportation to Quebec City is one of the costs you can ask to have reimbursed.

What should you do once the training is over?

  1. Keep your attestation. It is the proof of training the BSP requires.
  2. Apply for your licence. All the steps, documents and timelines are explained in our guide on how to get your BSP licence. Since the October group is offered as a work-study program, a temporary licence can sometimes let you work during the course.
  3. Prepare your application. Use our security guard resume template as inspiration.
  4. Apply for jobs. Hospitals, government buildings, campuses, shopping centres, construction sites and events: the region offers several settings. Our tips for finding a security guard job apply here too.

You can also train elsewhere. If no date suits you in Quebec City, compare with the offer described in our article on security guard training in Montreal, where several centres offer the program.

Frequently asked questions

What are the admission requirements for AEP 4239?

According to the Inforoute FPT, you must have at least the credits of the 3rd year of secondary school (or the equivalent) in language of instruction, second language and mathematics, and meet one other condition: be 18 or older, have interrupted full-time studies at least 12 months ago, or already hold a secondary school or vocational diploma.

Is the course full? What can you do?

The October 2026 group was listed as full on October 2. Register early for the February 2027 group, and ask whether there is a waiting list.

I have already worked in security without recognized training. Do I have to redo everything?

Not necessarily. The recognition of acquired competencies process (RAC-SECUR) at the CSS des Découvreurs, with continuous intake, is meant to have the experience you have gained validated.
